User Submitted PalmOne IIIxe Personal Handheld Organizer Reviews (cont...)Date: 2001-08-09 Palm III great device at the beginning GREAT AT THE BEGINNING, I have given this device excited endorsments, and have 6 freinds who have purchased PALM products on my recomendation. HOWEVER, this device is my Third. Started with the PALM PROFESSIONAL, and decided 2MB was not enough. Purchased a IIIxe and sold my PRO to a friend (it latet died on him). The first IIIxe worked great for aprox 4 months and then gave serious display problems. This was exchanged by customer support (who are great, but I later had a problem which they still have not answered, 3weeks). I have almost maxed out the memory and use it for everything from contact, schedule, to do, and even my checkbook, and some medical stats. Use it with the modem for e-mail and minor net lookups. BUT after 1 1/2 years, the device is giving me a HUGE headache. My computers are USB only, IT WILL NOT SYNC. The adapters seem to have a lifespan, of only 7 months, currently on my third. But Now WILL NOT SYNC AT ALL and customer support is confused. Am now shopping for replacement and not ordering PALM Date: 2001-08-04 Good price, good features As far as palm pilots go, this is a 5, unless you want color. Palm is popular and easy to use, so there are plenty of programs for it. Grafiti, the custom writing style, is good, but difficult for me due to poor fine-motor skills. As such, a few letters require several repeats to get. My wife is much better with the writing portion than I am. I primarily use this for reminders, phonebook and notes. Side use is multi-clocks for travelling, and various video games. Date: 2001-07-30 Nice while it lasted I didn't have any complaints about the IIIxe while it actually worked. It had more than enough memory and I found a lot of useful software to go with it. However, about 10 months after I bought it I started having problems with it. I should have called Palm right away, but put it off until the unit didn't work at all and I had no choice. Of course, by then it was out of warranty. Customer service at Palm is seriously lacking and the representative are quite rude. When I told them that it had started malfunctioning while still under warranty, they said it wasn't under warranty anymore and basically that it (stinks) to be me. I realize that it's partly my fault and that I should have called sooner, but it would be nice deal with a company that believes their customers are still important after they buy the product and is willing to give customers the benefit of the doubt rather than grabbing for more money. One representative offered to have it repaired for a "small charge." When I asked him what this small charge was, he said $95! That's not small in my book. While I will probably have it repaired eventually, it is only because I miss all the software that I bought for it that will only run on Palm OS. I would never buy a Palm product again. Date: 2001-07-27 Lots of Bang for your buck This handheld is the best one in the palm family. The features are well worth the reasonable price and it is very rugged. I have taken mine to class and really abused it living on dorm. To this day it works like a charm. You never know what your missing untill you get one. i bought mine as an impulse buy and I don't see how I got along with out it. Date: 2001-06-28 Excellent device, if you can find one This is without a doubt, Palm's best PDA. Just as powerful and useful as Palm's higher priced V and Vx models, at about $100 cheaper. Plus, its got an edge over the models its been replaced by. The m100 and m105 do not contain Flash memory like this unit does. That means the users of those machines are stuck with whatever OS comes on the PDA. The IIIxe has 2 MB of Flash memory, so its readily upgradable. The only mistake Palm made with this model was to discontinue it. If your in the market for a PDA and you can find a IIIxe, I whole heartedly recommend it.
