Date: 2001-06-19 Question: I am buying a Visor Handspring, but I already have a Hotsync cradle that came with my now dead Palm 3X. Will that cradle work with my new Handspring, or must I buy this? (sorry, I know that this is not a rating, but I know that some other shoppers will be interested to read the answer! Thanks.
Date: 2001-01-12 Without a USB port, what good is a PDA? A lot of good if you have this serial cradle! Our computers don't support USB in our somewhat dated NT4 Workstation environment. Without this serial cradle, I would not be able to sync my Visor.
Date: 2000-12-26 well........... Well what can i say? Its a hotsync cradle. Its not really so special. It does what its supposed to do. Ive never seen it do any tricks or anything. Maybe it does stuff while im not looking. An invaluable tool for d.l.'s, and i dont see owning a visor without one...in fact, dont they come with the visor? Why would i need another one?
Date: 2000-11-22 This is a good alternative for Palm Developers I was developing software for Handspring using CodeWarrior. Unfortunately the current CodeWarrior(c) does not support USB yet, so I have to look for a serial cradle for Handspring. This is very helpful for me to download the Palm binary code for POSE/Palm emulator. I haven't tried this cradle to other softwares, put it seems to work to other softwares too as long as they have COMx supports.
Date: 2000-06-22 A great alternative It's great that Handspring makes this an available option. My desktop has USB, so the USB cradle comes with the Visor fits the bill. But my laptop does not have USB. There are three options available. First is of course to live without a second cradle for a while, because I might soon buy a new laptop. Who knows! Second is to buy a PCMCIA card adapter for UBS port. Third is to buy Handspring's serial port cradle. It's not a big decision, but it's not an easy one either. I in fact mulled over this for a while before deciding to take the serial cradle. The main reasoning for getting the serial cradle is that I figure I need a second cradle anyway, one at home and one at work. Yes the serial cradle is much slower than the USB, but Palm users have alway used the slow serial port sync, and they still do. With this respect, I must thank Handspring for introducing a fast USB sync while at the same time making a serial port cradle available. As a standing alone product, I would rate it four star due the lack of speed, but as an option within a complete product line, the serial cradle deserves a solid five star.
