True love!
Everyone talks about the wireless service, but I've never used it and I still love this unit. It's great to know the VIIx has wireless capabilities, in case I decide to use them, but right now the PalmNet service is too expensive for my tastes. What I like about the VIIx is that it's a solid, quality PDA that synchs up nicely with my older Mac Powerbook. I love the classic look and feel of it, it has plenty of memory and it's a much better value for the money than the chintzy m105. (I bought and had to return two m105's because of problems with the digitizer accurately reading my graffiti and other inputs.) The m105 screen was tiny, the unit came with few support materials and even the stylus was cheap and flimsy. The newer Palm 500 series models look great but the prices are more than I could afford.
The biggest drawbacks of the VIIx are the short battery life (the unit always keeps the wireless transmitter charged), and the expensive wireless service, but if you're looking for a quality PDA at a great price that comes with lots of nice features and extras and has room to grow, the Palm VIIx is well worth your money. I absolutely love it!

NOT WORTH IT AT ALL!!!!!!
This is one of the worst palm pilots I have ever purchased. It is really slow and dosen't have much software. The battery life is REALLY low. The internet service is very limited and expensive. Also, the screen is grayscale which is really annoying when viewing web sites. I would recommend getting a PDA made by Hewlett Packard, Casio, or Compaq instead.

I love my Palm VIIx!
The Palm VIIx is a replacement for my faithful Palm VII (...). I've never had any performance issues with my Palms, and I love the wireless service. We use it extensively when we're travelling to keep up with emails on our home PC, and to find a Starbucks when we're drowsy. I use the iMessenger email every day and rarely exceed the allotted kilobytes of my Basic Service. People like to show off the sleekness of their V Series Palms, but the smugness disappears when I get them a quick stock quote. And I carry my device in my purse, so the size is small enough for me. I checked out the M505 but the wireless applications don't compare with the VII series; I'd need an attachment (more money, more stuff to carry) to connect the M505 to my cell phone. But someday, I sure would like a color screen...Palm, are you listening?!

A life-changing device
I have had my Palm VIIx for almost a year now. It was given to me as a gift, because I had thought it was too expensive (the price has come down a lot since then), and that something better was likely on the way soon (Palm has delayed the release of a replacement, and leaked spec's on the replacement did not make me want to toss my VIIx). Meanwhile I find myself using the YellowPages web clipping to look up phone numbers faster than I could using a phone book, using the DPWeb browser to look up movie times at my local Palm-friendly movieminder.com and read websites where all I really care about is the text anyway (yes, the connection is slow, but with graphics and Java stripped out, pages often load faster than on a PC with a 56K modem), and to check and send e-mail (Palm recently improved iMessenger by providing a rudimentary web interface to your mailbox and by allowing you to suck down mail from other accounts). I could not live without my Palm VIIx, and I do not even use it much for business. Like TiVo, it is a life-changing device.

Palm VII -- Skip it, stay w/V or move up to the 500 series
I've had a Palm VII since about a month after they debuted -- about two years now. Compared with other handhelds, this one is horrible. It eats batteries like a digital camera. It can't use rechargeable batteries so you end up with a dying machine and a lot of lost dollars on batteries. Number two, the wireless is extremely limited. While the weather.com and driving directions apps are good, they aren't that powerful and you have to pay (...) to use the service. It's not worth it. Lastly, the design and packaging are ugly, heavy, and big. The case is plastic and it is 3x as thick as a Palm V and a little wider. All in all, this product should be skipped. The Palm V is much better and the new m500 series are leading-edge products.
