Great machine at a great price
I just love this device and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others. It epitomises many of the things that have have made Sony a respected name; its functional, inexpensive and desirable as a thing of beauty.

Two minor reservations; one, common to all Palm devices, is that the rectangular shape does not fit comfortably in the hand. When are the makers of these machines going to wake up to the idea that they should have a curved back and taper at the bottom, like TV remotes? The second; the rocker switch used for scrolling is too small and requires too much pressure. Still, the Jog wheel compensates well.

If you get one of these, don't miss out on the 'killer' application; Avant-Go, which enables you to download fresh copies of newspapers and a host of other stuff to read on the move. Its free and it works like a dream.

Do not know why I waited so long!
I kept going back and forth about getting one of these, but my boyfriend got me this for xmas, and i am so glad he did! it is so simple to use and easy to understand now i am not sure how i lived without it! from memo lists to addresses and phone numbers, i now have everythign i need in a small, cute, durable place! It is really a wonderful tool. I would highly recommend this to anyone thinking about being more organized in the new year. The style of this unit is professional and does not look or feel like a toy, which is what i felt when i held the Palm and the Visor.

Lotsa Bang for the Buck Here!
The CLIE S320 was my third PDA in the sub $... price range and in terms of features and performance, it stands head and shoulders above the competition.

The main thing that makes the S320 such an attractive buy is that it is one of the few (if not the only) PDA in this price range to feature a rechargeable lithium battery. Second, although the display appears to be slightly smaller than on a 100 series Palm, it is easier to read and features a much more usable backlight. Third, it is expandable. The lowest priced expandable PDA made by Palm is the M125, which typically sells for about $... more and does not have rechargeable batteres. Fourth, the jog dial makes it much easier to navigate through the desktop than using the stylus, although it admittedly takes some getting used to.

The only negatives about the S320 is that it does not come with a hotsync cradle, although it does come with a separate sync cable and battery charger. I don't find this to be much more than a minor inconvenience. The display to me appears to be slightly smaller than that of a Palm, but the fact that it is much easier to read and features a better backlight than the Palm more than makes up for it.

I have had only a brief opportunity to compare the S320 to the Handspring Visor series, which I also think is a good buy for the money. To me, the CLIE has a more contemporary look than the Visor's cheap "plastic calculator" look, although they are similar in performance, depending on the Visor model (I'm speaking about the Neo series here).

Overall, Sony has managed to provide a number of good and useful features in the S320 for its price. It can be bought almost anywhere for approximately $.... This one is well worth a look. Unfortunately, I'm selling mine because my wife bought me a Palm M500 for Christmas, a PDA which is only slightly better than the CLIE but costs twice as much.

Big Disappointment
I purchased this unit after reading several reviews. What the reviews didn't tell me is that the standard Hot Sync cable feature doesn't work with Windows NT systems. After spending way too much time trying to find a Sony phone number for tech. support, I find a number where they charge for support by the minute! I don't think so. I finally find a person at a free Sony number who tells me it doesn't work on my system, I need to purchase the $80 cradle with a serial cable attachment. So I do. I wait a week and a half for delivery, it doesn't work either. Maybe it's me, I really don't under stand why this has to be sooooo hard! The unit is very nice, I do like it's features. But I need the ability to load and download information off my computer to the unit. Apparently I'm not smart enough to figure it out, the instructions leave a lot to be desired or this unit simply won't work with or without the cradle/serial cable on NT?????? Maybe with more/better instructions I would have figured it out. I'm returning all the equipment and going back to my Sharp OZ-730. A unit that does work on NT and my system!
