User Submitted RCA Lyra (tm) Portable MP3 Player (RD1070) ReviewsDate: 2005-03-13 Handy for Flash player I got mine off of Ebay in April 2004. There are good points and bad points. Pros * It was one of the earlier MP3 players that allows you to use 512MB flash cards. * It is also one of the few that support true MP3pro compatibility. CONS * I would have to agree with a lot of the other owners the MusicMatch needs to get off its rearend. * The conversion process takes a while even with a fast computer. * If you do not have USB 2.0 it will take a while for you to upload the music to your Lyra. When it came out this flash player was ahead of its time. Considering most did not let you expand the flash memory or it only let you add 32MB or 64MB at most this had more options. I am planning to upgrade soon to one of the newer ones. Over all a good product. Date: 2004-05-18 Player good, software stinks If my experience with Musicmatch is used, I will never buy another RCA mp3 player. I received it for Christmas 2002, and have used it a LOT. If you leave the batteries in, they seem to drain for some reason. The music quality is very good, and it's not too hard to use. I wasn't aware that you could play WMA files. I like sticking with good old mp3s. Like other people, I have been very unhappy with Musicmatch. The old software works fine. You can add or remove music and see what is in the player. Now you can add music, but you can only remove music or see what is loaded by clicking on the drive icon in windows. It's VERY irritating, and Musicmatch does not seem interested in resolving the problem. With Real and Itunes supporting various players, I will try another brand in the future. Right now my eye is on the Dell jukebox. Date: 2004-05-05 Software Doesn't Support Downloaded Music for Lyra My son bought this device in December. The Lyra itself is okay... lightweight, decent sound... but the MusicMatch software is an abomination. The latest MusicMatch incarnation does NOT support the Lyra for downloaded music. The company claims to have a plug-in to allow users to play downloaded music on the Lyra, but the plug-in does not install. Without the plug-in, you can still copy the files you ripped from CD, but no new music. I would like to buy myself a portable music device, but it won't be this one and it won't be any other that uses MusicMatch. Date: 2003-12-13 Good while it lasted. I received my RCA Lyra RD1070 on Christmas Eve in 2002. I immediately fell in love with it. It was awesome for the first five or six months. Then, at one point, the belt clip just broke. Then about a month later, the USB cover on the MP3 player just ripped off. Finally, in November and December of 2003, MusicMatch Jukebox started being really dumb. I upgraded my software to the 8.1 version (player came with 7.1). The drivers for my portable would not add to my screen. I had to go to a separate website and install them from there. Once I got that done, I couldn't add songs to my player still! After numerous messages to MusicMatch, they helped me a little, but hardly at all. If you want a good player, DON'T GET THIS PLAYER! Here are some pros and cons of both the player and software: Pros (Player) Cons (Player) I suggest never getting anything from RCA Lyra because of MusicMatch Jukebox. Hope this helps!!
