RCA has a great scam going.
RCA has a great scam going. Sell a fairly decent product somewhat cheaper then the competition. Of course, they are engineered to fail after only a few months use. I don't think it is all that unreasonable for a player with no moving parts to last at least as long as my 5 year old CD player.

I purchased an RCA KaZoo initially. It operated similiarly to the Lyra and I was generally happy with it. However after only 3 months it quit working. No worries, I decided to upgrade and go with a player that had a larger storage capacity and purchased the Lyra. Again after only a few short months it broke. This time it will not respond to the play button. What is really frustrating is that the unit still communicates with the computer via the USB cable connection. It just won't play the damn songs.

The tech support hasn't been helpful at all. The website has numerous broken links and the phone support is obviously crewed by minimum wage know-nothings.

I would not recommend purchasing anything by RCA. It isn't worth 20+ bucks a month to keep replacing broken players.

Awesome Little MP3 Player!
This is really a great MP3 player. It has great internal memory along with and SD expansion slot to give you even more. The sound quality is great and is very easy to fill up with songs. It is also very lightweight. The only thing that it is missing is the FM radio!

Why does this have to be so hard?
I just bought the new version -- RD1071. WMA files seem to transfer fine. They play fine. But they only play for 5-20 seconds and then everything shuts down. There is no contact information on the RCA site. They don't respond to email. There seems to be nothing I can find on the web about the problem, so now I just don't have a clue.

Short life span
I got one for Christmas '02 and I bought one for my son for his birthday in January '03. BOTH no longer work after only five months of gentle treatment (I used mine only a couple of times a week.) Completely dead in the water. The design is great but their life span is extremely abbreviated in my experience.

Mixed Results
I've been less than thrilled with the RCA device. I had hardware problems, software problems, and support problems. Not a good user experience to say the least.

The software is less than intuitive. If MusicMatch is winning awards from PC magazine, it must be a weak field indeed. I loaded some songs from CDs I owned and found on playback that they would skip and terminate mid-song.

I emailed to MusicMatch from the form that comes with the software and got an email back saying that support was not included with this version, I had to upgrade to the paid version of the software to get support. This is BS, if MusicMatch doesn't offer support, don't include a form as a ploy to get people to upgrade!

A couple of days later the device stopped working completely. I returned it.

I found the constant barrage of messages to upsell me to the subscription version of the software to be really annoying. Having purchased a player from a legitimate brand name like RCA, I didn't expect to have it bundled with de-featured free software with continual pitches to get even more money from me.

I would recommend against purchasing this MP3 Player.
