User Submitted Apple iPod 15 GB White M8946LL/A (3rd Generation) OLD MODEL Reviews (cont...)Date: 2003-08-12 Poor Audio Quality The bass breaks up on some pieces of music when the Rock or R&B equalizer setting is selected. This happens independent of the volume level. I've experience this problem with the Apple supplied headphones as well as my Grado SR80s. A user definable equalizer might have helped but Apple does not include this feature with the iPod. I would not purchase this product if you plan to listen to music with a reasonable amount of bass. Date: 2003-08-10 Beauty is is the hardward This review is stricly for Window ipod software. If you want a stunning and stylish piece of hardware that is complete infunctionality this is the piece for you. The ipod is an amazing engineering piece of machinery... from the great packing to the amazing design of the rotary wheel. Strongly recommend getting the dock and the remote--complete with the 15gb system. I would also recommend the Belkin car adapter and fm tuner. Combined, about a total of 50 dollars, they will turn your average fm stereo into an mp3 paradise... just mind the volume on the car adapter and the quality is quite clear. The only downpart I can see so far to the ipod is the MusicMatch software. It is far from 'simply' to most everyday computer users. I have a BS in comp. sci. and I found it difficult to use... mostly since the software did not recognize my ipod until I restarted 2 or 3 times. With such an imaganitive piece of machinery you would think they could find some software to be as cleaver. Unfortunately this is not the case, although overall this is a great device and would recommend working around the mediocre software to get the great technology... spring for the car kit. As always enjoy... The only criticsm I have of Apple (or should I say Musicmatch) is that the media player that is included for PC users could have been a little better. Its incredibly slow and its "track tagging" feature doesn't always work the way it should (I've tried Ephpod and it works much better/faster than Musicmatch, but I didn't feel like purchasing a full version of MacOpener in order to use it on a permanent basis). Perhaps with Apple's release of iTunes for Windows (which is supposed to happen by years end), my issues with Musicmatch's media player will be cured. The only thing I would suggest to any and all prospective purchasers of the iPod who are also PC users is to check and make sure that your iPod functions properly soon after you purchase it. CHECK EVERYTHING, ESPECIALLY THE BATTERY. The battery of the first iPod I bought of this model didn't work. It wouldn't recharge using the adapter it came with - a common problem. Luckily, I was smart enough to purchase the service plan that was offered by the store I bought my iPod from. I brought that iPod back the day after I bought it and the store had to replace it with a new one per the terms of the service plan. Not much of a review, I know. But like I said, it works as advertised. If you need to know all the things it can do, just read Amazon's review or go to Apple's web page and read all about it.
