Super PDA!
My husband and I currently own an ipaq 1945 and a new member to the family, an ipaq hx4705. I absolutely love it! It is super fast, performs tasks rapidly and efficiently. The screen is amazing, frontrunner in its class, and can be viewed outdoors better than any pda screen I've ever seen. Too new to find many accessories locally, though, only drawback so far. Large 4" screen is lovely, and very easily switches to landscape mode for right or left handed individuals. Wifi works seamlessly, and even can access files and copy them to its memory from our other networked desktops at our home. Wifi is a huge advantage.

We had to get a pda with compactflash and sd card slots, and this one is perfect. Lightweight, metal body (not plastic and painted silver like most of today's pda's), buttons that are not able to get junk under them because they are flat, and a neat protective flip screen that comes with it are just a few of the features. IR port is on the bottom this time, so it is much easier to use our ir keyboard. New thumb-cursor controls at the bottom are hard to use at first, but become a neat way to use the pda without scratching the screen. Overall, awesome pda that really delivers, with a ton of ram and endless possibilities. Just a little ahead of its time for now.

If your looking for one of the best this is for you!
I have owned my HX4705 for about 3 weeks to this date, and I love it. I have used it has a mp3 player and a video player many times ( actually nearly every day) and the quality is excellent.

Besides its media features the hx4705 is a great business tool. It comes with a large number of apps that I haven't even tried yet. But pocket informant is one of my favorites, basically its a add-on to the calander program, which allows you to easily enter and view appointments and such with greater detail.

The huge Screen is my favorite part of this iPAQ, with a 640 x 480 display everything looks so crisp and, well, pretty!

For those that are unfamiliar with windows pocket pcs in general, let me tell that that is a strong backing of these products and many sites on the web have freeware apps of all kinds.

One disappointment with this iPAQ is that the IR port is on the bottem on the unit, which means its pointing down. I really wanted a tv remote program but the lousy placement of the IR forces you to use a remote program while holding the device backwards.

If you are not convinced you want to commit this amount of money for the hx4705 I would suggest Rx3115 pocket pc by hp. I have also used one and they are great too.

Great for Remote Desktop
Apart from all the obvious cosmetic advantages of VGA resolution and its beautiful colors, the absolute best reason for buying the iPAQ HX4705 VGA Pocket PC is this:

You can use it to connect to your desktop PC back at the office or home (using the included Terminal Services Client feature and your Bluetooth cellphone or WiFi), and the iPAQ's display view is just like the one you see on your desktop! No more scrolling and jumping to see the whole display area, like on the old QVGA Pocket PCs. The icons and letters in the VGA display are very small (necessarily), but thanks to bright backlighting and excellent resolution, anyone who can read a newspaper without glasses should have no trouble with the fine text.

This device has made mobile computing from a Pocket PC truly practical. Best "early adopter" purchase I ever made.

Nice Unit with minor flaws
HP tends to really have top of the line Pocket Pc's and they hold the title with this great unit. The VGA screen is really amazing along with the speed and other funtions of the unit. However, the few flaws in the unit itself are the fact that the buttons are very hard to press and networking problems can occur. Heres the quick rundown:

Pros:
-VGA Screen is Top Notch!
-Speaker is loud
-Card Slots are good
-Great Metal Finish and Feel
-Speed is amazing too!
-Battery Life GREAT
Cons
-Touch pad is hard to learn how to use
-Buttons are hard to find
-Rom is weak

All and all, this is one of the best units out there. If you are looking for a quick pocket pc for work or pleasure, this can really suit both areas!

Very Disappointed!!
I got this device as a Christmas gift. Very excited, I started to play with it right away. I only enjoyed for about 5 minutes, and then it started to freeze. The only way to make it work again is to disconnect the battery and have it cooled down for about 15-20 minutes.

I did like it a lot, because it has a large vivid color touch screen. The touch screen was also very responsive, unlike my old one, which I had to press hard to execute a command. The size and weight is just about right. You can comfortably rest it in your palm, and browse the internet. The touch pad is kind of useless to me, but I think it makes this device look unique.

I wanted to buy it again after the first one was returned, but discouraged based on the experience that I had. HP should work harder on their quality control, especially a device cost this much!
