User Submitted Apple iPod 20 GB White M9282LL/A (4th Generation) OLD MODEL Reviews (cont...)Date: 2006-05-22 My iPod... One Year Later I must admit, I've derived a great deal of satisfaction from my iPod over the past year. As lauded in the press, it is an example of superior design, it's extremely portable, and stores what seems like an infinite number of songs. It's sugar and spice. However, one year later, like other reviewers, my iPod is dead as a doorknob. On a good day it may actually turn itself on, but more often than not it just doesn't feel like getting out of bed. If it turns out, it plays some songs in their entirety, other songs for maybe 8 seconds... I feel like it's constantly teasing me. So, my advice is go for it... but really use it a lot in that first year of ownership; because as well as designing its great looks, Apple has also designed in obsolescence. Beware of failure and make sure you're happy shelling out a couple of hundred bucks for something that may only last one year. Good luck! Date: 2006-05-21 the ipod & customer service--huge letdowns My ipod died about a month before my warranty expired, but apple wouldn't honor it right away. After hours on hold and lots of misinformation in emails and on the phone, I finally got the box to send in the ipod. The shipping was very fast, but they sent it back to me, saying they wouldn't fix it because of abuse (tiny scratches, which are common). Apparently, other people have had similar problems, and now I'm just trying to find a replacement. Date: 2006-05-03 The saga of the iPod I recieved an iPod for Christmas last year. I loved it. It was with me all the time, my constant connection to music. However, we made the mistake of not buying the extended warranty, assuming that a popular product such as this would not be faulty and die on us. I used my iPod for a year, and it worked fairly well, despite a few annoying freeze-ups. However, two weeks after the expiration of my warranty, my iPod died. I called customer service, and was helped by someone who took me through the same step over and over again, not helping at all. He then told me that I should give up and buy a new iPod. Some customer service, huh? I used my skills of rhetoric to convince the man's supervisor to sell me a replacement iPod for the price of fixing the iPod itself. This was only because my family, with three iPod owners, has sunk a lot of money into iPods alone. So they sent me my "new" iPod (it turned out to be refurbished, but that didn't matter much to me), and I was happy again with my iPod back in action. However, after only three months of use, my iPod crashed once again. This time, I didn't have any warranty at all, as Apple didn't allow me to buy any warranty on this iPod. And that is how I got to this point. My iPod is broken, I'm stuck having to pay for a new one, and I'm warning all of you against buying the iPod. Date: 2006-05-01 Great iPod Love this iPod - it's easy to download music and the sound quality is amazing! Date: 2006-04-23 Hard drive failed I own the 40 GB ipod, I loved it and vowed never to go back to CDs. It worked great for about six months then began skipping songs while playing. Unfortunately I tried to resolve the issue myself, then had several months worth of personal problems, then tried to resolve myself again. Now it's out of warranty, has failed completely. I'm told by the techs that it's the hard drive and cannot be fixed. Moral - if you have trouble, go ahead and try to reset /restore but do it quickly and if there's still any sign at all that the ipod is having problems send it back. It wastes precious time trying to do it yourself while under warranty.
