Amazing little machine!
Had mine for about three months, thus far it has been great. I think this might be the only PDA in this price range with both bluetooth and wifi built in. Also it has infra red capability, and will "learn" from your existing TV remotes. This device really does do so much, it is the equivalent of a 233Mhz PC with very limited disk space. It's amazing they haven't sold more. It even runs Quake II!

You definitely are going to want an SD card with this, and use the built in backup program to make regular backups of your data to that card. For me, there are lots of applications downloaded off the internet so installing them on the card is a must - there would simply be not enough room otherwise. It does crash, sometimes 2-3 times/day under heavy use.

Now all they need to do are two things: Add those little Toshiba 1.4" hard disks to these like are already in the iPods. And give us a BIOS or somesuch so that we can install different operating systems on them (just like on existing PC's).

Third time is the charm
I really like this PDA, however I went through three of them in about a month. All of them had their hard drive "fry" within about an hour of use. Needless to say, that was a bit frustrating and left me very skeptical of HP PDAs. However, I've had my 3rd one now for about a year and have had no problems.

The HP help staff were generally very helpful, although I thought they should have thrown in the towel and sent me a new one about 15 minutes before they did. HP's replacement policy was good - they sent out the replacement and included postage and a box to send back the old one.

While I'm not sure, I believe my first replacement model was a rebuilt machine. It had scratches like it had been used briefly. No matter, however, since it died shortly after I got it and I was subsequently sent a new second replacement.

I've found the PDA itself very intuitive to use and the interaction with my desktop computer very good. Every once in a while, one of my Microsoft Outlook Tasks will get dismissed through an inadvertant touch on the screen, but overall it's been great. If it wasn't for the poor initial quality I would give this PDA 4 stars.

Great device - died young
I bought this to replace a Palm Tungsten I used for business contacts and scheduling. The IPAQ worked great - all the multimedia stuff works as advertised - Windows software is a little klutzy but you get used to it. Just when I was beginning to really like it and trust it (about two months) everything on the memory card disappeared. Checked everything out and the memory card is ok - the IPAQ just can't read it. I googled it and the problem is widespread. The device is in a drawer until I can get up the will to throw a nearly three hundred dollar device in the trash. I went back to the Palm. It ain't all that cute but I trust it with my data.

Great until it breaks
I liked it a lot when it was working. Great color, did what I needed. Turned out to be overkill, didn't need all the media stuff. Wifi sort of worked, but hard to tell which visible connections were working, and no way to tell signal strength. Not at all user friendly.

But then one day after it was off warranty, it just died. Battery fully charged, plug it in, no lights. Hard reset, soft reset, nothing. I wasted the money on a new battery with charger, but it was no different than the original battery.

After dueling with HP email support for a while, where they send random responses not related to my questions, I got them to let me send it back for analysis. They told me to back it up first -- hard to do with a dead unit!

After a few days (promptly!), they call to tell me I have a dead motherboard, which they will replace for $219, or ship it back for $50 analysis fee. Given list is $299 nowadays...

So I have my old Palm X5 again, looking for a new PDA. Not an HP. Palm XT? No replaceable battery, and reported quality and support issues. Dell Axim X51V? Top of my list right now.

Not a good quality product
I bought this item in March and had to replace it because battery dry out within 24 especially if you forget to disable the wireless even the machine is off. The product was replaced and same issues emerge till it stop working in 2 months. I do not rememeber how many times I had to put all my data becasue the back-up get drained after the orignial battery. I finally decided to return the product for credit. I will look for something else.

Just so you know that product works very well and very user friendly, but if you are willing to charge it every 12 hours, its not worth it.
