Deno's report
I agree with most of the reviews on this product. It works, but still leaves a little bit to be desired. It is slow to take commands and if you hurry it will lock up. This is easily cleared, but it is a pain. The same goes for integration with a computer, it is slow and does things at its own speed. Downloading the updated program from Microsoft helps a bunch, but still leaves the whole operation behind the easy operation of my old Palm. This reminds me of the first computer I owned, slow, saw more of the blue-screen of death than I wanted. Perhaps we are trying to do too much with a PDA?

HP IPAC RX 1955
The soft ware has problems with memory cards
Programs stall
The screen will not stay aligned
The firmware needed to be updated twice and still does not work
The Main board was replaced and the unit still stalls, does not close applications and the screen losses alignment.

The only GOOD thing I can stay about it is the Technical service provided by HP has been excellant.

Lets see if they will take it back - because I have lost my patience with it.

Love it
Haven't had any problems w/ it. I use it mainly for a book reader, and I need to expand the memory, but I have over 150 Ebooks on it. Great little computer

Great entry level 4 stars and 1 star for the price
It is great. I got the ipaq last week and loving it. If the unit has more memory, it is ideal but you got what you paid for. It is the best unit for that price range. The display is bright and clear. Play mp3 and movie without problem but it is not like window that you can run multiple applications. One at a time is fine. The wireless is easy to use and get very good reception. There are few little drew backs. It does not come with the stand/station. It only comes with cable that connect to PC and power at the same time. The case it comes with looks silly. The little pencil comes out easily. I put a small tape at the end and that fix it. Overall, it is a decent pocket PC.

Be warned
I have not purchased an iPAQ RX1955 but I have owned 2 other HP Pocket PCs -the Jornada 540 and then an Ipaq 2215. One thing that no reviewer has mentioned is the fact that HP's customer support for these devices tends to be relatively short-lived. After a couple of years the firmware upgrades cease and spare parts become harder and harder to get and you have to shop all over the Internet for any items that break. The original flimsy side grips on my Ipaq 2215 were forever needing to be replaced and eventually I had to buy an after-market set from a 3rd party seller that turned out to be far stronger and longer lasting. The Ipaq 2215 battery cover door also tended to break easily and again I had to get an after-market replacement from a seller in the UK - also much better quality than the original. In both cases HP were either not offering these spare parts of were charging an arm and a leg for inferior quality components. Also you may find, as I do, that when you synch your device with your PC you may start getting messages about the presence on your device of out of date drivers that are no longer supported but you will not be able to upgrade them because HP will have cut you loose!

While I still find my Ipaq 2215 a useful tool, buyers should not expect very much in the way of customer support from HP after a couple of years have gone by. This makes it quite a struggle to maintain the device's usefulness. Frankly, HP does not care that much about you and that is how they show it. I guess their top management is spending more of its energy spying on one another and defending those actions in congressional hearings.

Also, you can see fewer and fewer Pocket PCs being displayed in electronic store retail outlets. This tells me that increasingly these devices are heading towards obsolescence and are being regarded as yesterday's technology. So I will not be buying another stand-alone Pocket PC again. Instead, I will buy an integrated Pocket PC/cell phone wih a touch screen. At least, that way, every 2 years, at the end of my contract, I will have the opportunity to upgrade my device, at a reasonable cost and stay abreast of the technology curve and also not have to carry around two separate devices. Hopefully this will also liberate me from the dubious mercy of the inferior quality and short-lived customer support that HP offers for these devices! If you still want to buy a Pocket PC - then go ahead but at least now your eyes will be more open and you will be aware of this downside aspect of your purchase that nobody else had mentioned in their reviews.
