User Submitted Apple iPod classic 160 GB Black (6th Generation) Reviews (cont...)Date: 2008-12-11 Unusuable I decided to upgrade to a classic 160G. I currently have a 30G. Between the four member in my family this purchase was my 10th Ipod. I purchased it on Monday and exchanged it on Wednesday because it would skip to the next track or stop or go back to the menu and I thought it was defective. I returned the second classic on Friday. It had the same problem. I could see from looking at the Ipod classic forums that this has been a common complaint for over a year! Apple support said they were working on a fix and maybe they would have one in a couple of months! As I mentioned we own many different types of Ipods including a 80 G classic that was a Christmas gift for my husband last year that are problem free so it was very disappointing to not be able to give myself this Christmas present. I also caution everyone about updating the software which may or may not cause the same problem in your ipod. Never could get a good answer from Apple support whether they thought it was a hardware or software problem. Date: 2008-12-08 Love it, but slightly underpowered Purchased Aug 2008 Pro: large capacity excellent battery life Con: slow, underpowered I purchased this to allow me to keep all my music with me, as I never know when the mood will hit me to hear some of my more obscure music. The only problem is that as the hard drive fills, the responsiveness of the menus goes way down. The battery life is wonderful. I have yet to see the battery go below 50%, and I sometimes go for a few days between recharges. That said, I don't watch many videos, and I usually just let it play music randomly without messing with it. I have a complex hierarchy of 20 smart playlists to give me a random mix of music that cycles through all my music at various rates. It can take almost a minute for the playlists to refresh before the music starts to play. I do have over 19,000 music files, and I note that the menu responsiveness is acceptable if I limit the iPod to just 5,000 music files or so. I realize that everyone wants better battery life, and that slower processor speeds use less power to achieve better battery life. I just feel that the 160G iPod should have a faster processor and more memory than the 80G iPod. I would sacrifice a little battery life for more speed. Date: 2008-12-06 I Love It The only downfall I have had with the product is the wheel sticks at times, otherwise a great purchase. Date: 2008-12-05 Love the Classic 160GB! Product arrived timely; packed well, and in new condition. This is my second iPod classic 160gb purchase - misplaced my first one and have been lost without it. So happy to get replace my classic 160gb and at a great price! Date: 2008-12-02 Apple iPod classic 80 GB Black (6th Generation) I am pleased with the look and sound of the ipod. Overall it is pretty good. My concern is that the dial sticks and I cannot always navigate from artist, song, compilations, etc. My hope is that it is just a slight glitch and not going to get worse and then eventually not work at all. I bought brand-new ipod so I am disappointed that this ipod isn't 100%.
