It Gets the Job Done
The HTC Mogul PPC6800 is the newest Windows Mobile Phone by HTC offered through Sprint. Features include a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, EVDO Rev. A, Wifi, and a 2.0 Megapixel Camera. Through plans it usually sells for $300. Overall I am very pleased with my Mogul. It's keyboard is one of the best I've used on a phone and the reception is pretty good. One thing I'm not a fan of is battery life - I make sure to charge it every night when I am asleep, otherwise the battery won't last long. It is slightly thick, it would be really nice if it was somewhat thinner. The camera is a 2.0 Megapixel camera, although it does not have an autofocus, which is a big deal to me. Overall the Mogul is currently the best Windows Mobile Phone available. If they could do the following in the next revision it would be perfect: autofocus camera, more RAM, thinner, more battery life, GPS enabled.

Looks so good on paper...
... but living with this phone is a nightmare.

This is a great tool for checking email, keeping an address book and calendar, even for connecting to your PC via USB to use as a modem when you're on the road (requires extra service option from sprint).

But if you want to be able to use it as a telephone, forget about it. Drops calls, locks up, horrible sound quality, bluetooth totally does not work, and it often just refuses to answer calls, or even ring about 10% of the time. And this is even though the first thing I do in the morning after unplugging it from the charger is reboot it. (oh, and battery life is horrible, you will have to charge it every day, and if you talk more than 3 or 4 hours a day, you'll need to charge it during the day, too)

Sprint won't help you with any of these issues, neither will HTC - the maker of this phone - they just each say it is the other's fault.

DO NOT BUY!!!
Save your $$$. Neither the GPS nor the Bluetooth work on this phone. It is advertised as such, but does NOT work. Sprint won't even let me exchange this for a phone with working blutooth. They released an update 2 weeks ago, but have since removed it and suggest to people they remove that update. It cause more problems than it fixed. I've been round-and-round with sprint, and this is my last straw. If you don't need bluetooth or GPS, then this phone will be good for you. I suggest some other phone.

Beware of the Sprint Mogul
This phone sounds perfect from the specs that were promised by Sprint. It actually has GPS and EVDO revision A capabilities but Sprint isn't allowing it through the ROM. ROMS are upgrades to phones that fix problems and provide upgrades.

HTC recently provided a ROM update that locks up the phone when the connection switches from EVDO to 1X. The phone doesn't ring and you can't really hear during the call.

Sure it is great for web surfing but not as a phone. Hopefully HTC will fix their bad ROM but I am not banking on it.

Be very afraid of this phone at least until Sprint and HTC fix it. Read the sites that track what is happening.

My First Smart Phone
This is my first smart phone and I am so glad I have it. I was so tired of carrying three devices and this really lightens my load plus it has Windows Mobile 6 which is a great improvement over earlier Windows CE/PPC. It is so versatile I can't believe it. It performs well with few drop outs plus I can use it with WiFi (although not to talk and it does drain the battery). The sound is average although as an MP3 player through wired sound it is quite good. The OEM battery will last between 1-2 days so make sure you carry a charger or the USB cable when you are on the road.
It certainly isn't a perfect device by any means but I expected some compromises with so many features. At the time of this writing, I am still waiting for a ROM upgrade to fix some well know problems before I commit to my first foray into stereo bluetooth headsets. Sprint has been somewhat slow with upgrades and it is not compatible with Sprint's Ultimate service that includes radio and TV over wireless. It works just fine, however, with the basic Spring Power Vision and for $15/mo for unlimited EV-DO Internet its a great deal. The ROM upgrade has also been promised to update the EV-DO to even better bandwidth.
Overall, this is a good value if you buy it through Amazon and don't expect perfection (I unfortunately paid more buying directly from my carrier). With all the features and expandability this phone offers, it will take you a while to outgrow.
