User Submitted Creative Zen 4 GB Portable Media Player (Black) Reviews (cont...)Date: 2008-10-01 Creative Zen 32G - cool player! Nice sleek player, easy to navigate, and excellent display which is easy to read in bright areas. Battery longevity has exceeded my expectation! I look forward to exploring it's many cool features! This is an edit based on an earlier misunderstanding on my part, it seems I can't increase the star rating, but if i could would make it 4-Stars. Date: 2008-10-01 4 out of 5 - still a great mp3 player I really like this mp3 player. I give it 4 out of 5 because of 2 issues that I feel are flaws. The first issue being that I still cannot figure out how to get it out of random mode. That even when I select an album, when I hit the button to switch to the next song, it randomly picks tracks out of the album. The second issue being that the instruction manual is basically a piece of paper saying "here you are, figure it out yourself". Although I do feel, that with some basic technological experience, most people should be able to figure it out relatively easily. I do love the fact that it stores so much music and I love that I can have my pictures. I take trips a lot, so this is a lot better than printing out pictures of only the most key points of my trip. I can just show people through my mp3 player. I also love that you can download videos to it. There's a lot of funny videos sent in emails that I've downloaded and I was able to put those on it. The memory card holder isn't really a feature, it doesn't do much for storage unless, I'm assuming you have a large card, but it's still nice to be able to just stick it in and look around on it. I mostly use mine for storage while I'm out and about taking pictures, so when I've filled the card, I switch it out with the empty one stored in it. Date: 2008-10-01 Good Player, Good Price, Poor SD Integration While overall I am very happy with my Zen purchase I am disappointed in the way the Zen utilizes the SD expansion slot. It can be a bit annoying to have to access music or other files on the SD card from the "Memory Card" menu not the Music or Video menus. In short, don't plan on having any playlists that include songs from the SD card. Also, if you occasionally listen to audiobooks (as I do)you cannot use the Bookmark feature with files on the SD card. I suppose if Creative had fully integrated the SD feature nobody would buy the higher capacity Zens, they would just buy the 2GB model and add big SDHC cards. If the lack of full SD integration isn't a huge issue to you pick yourself up a Zen, it's a great player overall at a good price. Date: 2008-09-30 Excellent transaction Recently purchased a Creative ZEN MP3 player from Amazon, and the whole transaction was great. Received item before scheduled, wrapped/packaged very good, and the price even beat that of military exchange prices. Will look to Amazon in the future for other purchases. Date: 2008-09-30 Linux Usability The Creative Zen works great under Linux both via mtpfs using gnomad2, and via the sdhc card using fat32. I would recommend getting one of the lower capacity models and adding a 16Gb SDHC card, because loading music onto the sd card is faster, and the directory hierarchy is used for playback, making it much easier to deal with than the mtpfs native storage. I bought the 32Gb version, and added a 16Gb sdhc. I'm using it at home, plugged into my Klipsch multimedia speakers. I'm going to pick up a 4Gb and a 16Gb sdhc to use in the car. If it weren't for the sdhc support I probably would have given this a 3 just because of the lack of MSC (fat32) support on the native storage. MTPFS is kind of a lame, silly filesystem.
