Zen Interface not Compatible w/ Vista!
This is my second zen that I have purchased. The first went off without a hitch until I got a new laptop w/ windows vista. Creative does not yet make a program to interface with Vista - BAD ON THEM!!

Is the voice recorder any good???
Can anyone tell me is the built in voice recorder is any good? I just started college and would like to record some of my classes. It would need to be able to record well from a good distance, like a lecture hall or large classroom. Thanks.

Great player and durable as well
Creative Zen 4 GB Portable Media Player (Black)
I use my Zen virtually every day. When I ordered it, I also ordered the hard, clear plastic case. I've dropped the player from a height of about 4 feet to a ceramic tile floor. I was worried that I'd broken it, but there was NO damage. The plastic case saved it, I think. The case is a must-have. Also, I had a Creative Zen adapter/charger that belonged with my older (smaller) Creative Zen player. It works with the new player and recharges quickly.

nice but complicated and heavy
My first impression was that this is too big to carry around the world. But at 2.5 ounces it's not that bad. And it has a heavy, smooth, rounded, tactile quality that reminds me of a worry stone, so I like it.

It was totally easy to set up. But then I was confronted with a complex menu system that was anything but intuitive. In trying to do something simple like change the volume, I would bump myself out of music into Audible books. Very annoying. But I read the user guide and I'm happier now.

One annoying thing is that it lumps Audible books in with music tracks and random play will send you into Audible, which can wreck a mood to have a deep voice suddenly reading "Horton hears a Who" (one of their sample books).

But the FM radio works fine, the sound quality is good, and the price was right. I miss my Sansa Clip with its pretty pink color, tiny size, obvious controls. But it didn't provide enough volume to overcome airplane noise, and sometimes the headphones had a loose connection.
