VIDEO.. I use it for only MP3<-- thats why im giving five Date: 2008-03-18 MP3 Player is OK, Video Player Option is HORRIBLE I previously owned a Sansa e280, which I really enjoyed. It played videos, which had to be converted via the Sansa proprietary software. When it died after 20 months, I was upset - but used my extended warranty and was able to upgrade to this mode. More like a downgrade. While twice the memory, more than tice the hassle compared to the older player. I had many movies which I had converted for my older player, but none were compatible with this one. While disappointed, I prepared myself to spend the weekend converting my videos for this latest device. My previous copy of the Sansa Media Converter software would convert a 800 MB file (AVI, full length movie - 100 minutes) in anywhere from 90 minutes to two hours. I setup a movie to convert (which I had previously converted with the older version of the software), and after 10 hours it had NOT FINISHED! I set up some smaller videos (22 min TV shows), and they took two hours a piece! Plus - with this "new version" it no longer allowed me to simply convert the file on my hard drive - it had to copy it to the player after converting it (in fact, if my player was not connected, it wouldn't even allow me to convert!) I thought "Ok, I'll convert them onto the player, and then copy them off so I have back-ups". Wrong. Sandisk tech support basically told me that "Oh yeah - you can't copy videos onto the player directly, they have to go through the Media Converter". With the OLDER player you could store your converted files on a hard drive, and just copy them onto the player in the designated folder, so if I wanted to swap out a movie before a flight - it only took as long as it takes to copy a 200 MB file onto the player (maybe 2 minutes or less?). But the "new enhanced version" doesn't allow this. Per Sandisk, "for some firmwares media converter is the only way to transfer media files". When I complained about the speed - they offered me another solution: "You also can use anyvideoconverter ([...])" So I tried that, which didn't work. I eventually did find something on www.download.com that was free and worked - but to no avail since you can't copy the converted files onto the device!!! I loved the earlier product so much that I bought my wife one, and we bought many Sansa accessories for them. This latest attempt has been nothing but a disappointment. It is a new product, and had hopes that Sandisk's technical support might offer me some hope (a simple "We're sorry, this sounds like something we need to address in a future firmware update - please check back" would have given me that rather than their response which provided no solution or direction). Don't buy this product if you have any hope of putting videos on it. Date: 2008-03-16 love it! I love the view. It's only faulted me 2X but that's every electronic in the book - they all have problems. This is certainly a great buy!! They should add AM radio and wireless internet then they will really have the market share. Date: 2008-03-16 see cowon d2 for ogg I prefer the Cowon D2 for ogg playback support, though the 16gb of disk space is useful - even though both support SDHC cards (up to 32gb?). Date: 2008-03-13 No IPOD for me! Great successor to the e250 / e280 series of flash MP3 players. Just like the previous flavors, this one mounts seemlessly as a disk drive on any Windoze box for easy drag and drop. Good ergonomics. My only gripe is the lack of a protective cloth sleeve similar to what the e250 / e280 series came with. Good non-slip base helps though. Uses the same proprietary USB / Power connector as the e250 / e280 series. I don't do portable video, so I can only comment on the audio, although the screen appears durable and bright, as well as about 1 1/2 times bigger than the e250 / e280 series. Excellent!
