User Submitted SanDisk Sansa View 16 GB Video MP3 Player (Black) Reviews (cont...)Date: 2008-04-10 Good but not Great pros; Its small, moderately easy to use, looks Prim Cons: when you watch a video, instead of viewing the item portrait-wise(iPod) you have to watch it sideways. the screen is literally about an inch long. WARNING WILL CAUSE MIGRAINS FOR LONG TIME VIEWING PERIODS.and the screen displays movies in widescreen inch long screen + widescreen display = migrain :( Date: 2008-04-07 Great Purchase I have always been interested in SanDisk after my friend introduced it to me. Preferred it than ipod. But the view has a great layout of everything pretty much the same as the previous ones. Its really simple to put your movies, music, pictures in it. But I had a hard time getting my laptop recognize it. So I'm going to end some of the peoples misery. Here are the steps: 1. Plug your transfer cable into a USB port on your PC. 2. Fully shut down the View (hold up power/hold switch for 5-10 Seconds) 3. Turn the View back on 4. After the View has fully booted up, place it in hold mode 5. Press down the left side of the scroll wheel 6. While still holding down the scroll wheel, plug the cable into your View 7. Keep the scroll wheel pressed down until the device is mounted in your selected OS And now your View is now connected to you PC through UMS/MSC mode. Date: 2008-04-05 Faulty First order came in and the darn thing broke within a week. It wouldn't shut off sometimes and sometimes it wouldn't turn on. Returned it for another and the same thing happened within the first day. Was not happy and received a full refund. Date: 2008-04-03 Lots of Potential--Mixed Bag I considered myself a loyal Sandisk customer and I was very excited about the View. I purchased one after it first came out. I should have waited a year or so. The View has a lot of things I desire in a player. It is a flash player with a lot of space. Essentially, it is a beefed up E200 series in a much slicker package with a bigger screen. The fly wheel is also very, very comfortable to use. So, in terms of hardware and Audio, I love the View. It is the software where things get dicey. The View's video playback looks washed out--or it seems that the tint is off. . .even on videos purchased from Amazon Unbox. Also, it has an amazingly annoying tendency to freeze up when "Play all" and shuffle are used. This is extremely annoying and more often than not, one has to restart the player. This is also extremly annoying due to the fact that there are no dedicated volume controls--so if it freezes up, you cannot adjust the volume on the player (or do anything else for that matter). Now, what is even more annoying is that Sandisk seems to be ignoring these software issues. When I first got the player, a firmware fix was promised. Well, they issued a new firmware, but this essentially killed the battery life on the player and it did nothing to fix the freezing issue. If you check the forums, including the one on the Sansa site, you see that this is a widespread problem. It has been a long time since any new firmware has been issued--it seems that Sandisk is basically moving forward and ignoring the people who purchased this product. I have been extremely dissapointed with Sandisk as a company in regards to their support of this player and I am not sure if I will buy another Sandisk product. So, overall, I would not recommend purchase of the View until the software problems have been fixed.
