User Submitted HP iPAQ 111 Classic Handheld (FA979AA#ABA) (110 Series) Reviews (cont...)Date: 2008-04-18 Fantastic Product I purchased the iPAQ 111 as an alternative to this year's much-hyped smart phones. All I can say is that I'm very glad I did so. HP managed to build an easy to use PDA that has plenty of useful features, including wi-fi, Bluetooth, and Microsoft Office. No bad words for this product- everything about it has so far exceeded my expectations. :) Date: 2008-04-16 Sturdy companion on ward rounds I have had this machine for over a couple of months now. I was a little apprehensive initially when I bought the machine since I had ordered it online 'blindly' and had asked a friend to carry it for me to pakistan from the states. This is always a risk with the limited after sales service and exchange facility. Anyways... I have found it to be a brilliant machine designed for people like me who wish to use it frequently for academic reference. It is light, good looking and fits in a white coat's upper pocket which is really helpful. I havent gotten down to using the wifi much so wouldnt comment on it. The screen is fantastic. Music playback is reasonable. Videos look beautiful on the nice screen. The battery life is amazing for a user like me who uses it for reference only. It can last for up to five days with off and on music playback. On the whole it is a sturdy machine and worth its price. If anything new comes up, I will be writing again on the forum. Date: 2008-04-14 damn- I have Millinneum Operating System I like the IPac- however because I need to get a new computer I haven't been able to view the instruction disc or transfer my contacts. So I can't find out how to read my email on the Ipac. that is sad. Date: 2008-04-10 HP delivers a solid product POSITIVES: + Form factor: small, thin, light-weight; easily slides into pocket + Speed: fast with plenty of memory for average PDA users; + Pocket PC: Have to say I like WM6 better than Palm OS. A launcher/memory/task program is really the only missing product. + WiFi: very good at picking up signals, prolonged use does drain battery but hey, it's not a laptop. + Bluetooth: dial your phone, transfer ringtones, etc + Voice recorder: works well + Buttons are reassignable for your preference + Compatibility: compared to Palm OS works very well with Windows XP and Outlook 2003 + Software bundle: Not bad with PDF viewer (a bit slow), light versions of Powerpoint (useful), Excel (not so much), Word (probably no use for this). NEGATIVES: - QVGA screen: would be nice to have full VGA like the Palm units, but for text/graphics display it is adequate. Only in photos does the difference show. - Screen polarization: for normal portrait view it is not bad, 90deg rotated landscape view reveals poor polarization such that the optimal angle is a strange 30-40degrees in one direction. For normal use this is not really noticeable but for use in dark rooms or for prolonged viewing of images it may give people some eye strain until you find the right viewing angle OTHER COMMENTS: - power button location: I don't mind it, better than top-mounted position acutally - record button: once you get used to it you don't hit it too much, you can also disable the button if you wish - battery life is very good unless you use a lot of Wifi or bluetooth CONCLUSION: I went with this because of the concern with screen problems and lack of updates with the Palm TX and so far I have no regrets. If you dont want a smartphone, this is a great PDA for the price if you can overlook its shortcomings. Date: 2008-04-07 Great Item, Not so great support The HP iPAQ 11 is a great functioning handheld but the support that HP provides is not adequate. I had a problem with it the first week and when I called HP their foreign speaking Tech Supporter said that the HP software did not support Windows Vista and Office 2007. What the heck both items have been out for over a year and this iPAQ does not support the windows software. What was worse is that she was wrong. I called Gateway support and they took me through the proper procedures to re-sync my handheld and my PC. Come on HP get with it.
