User Submitted Freestyle 2GB Waterproof MP3 Player - Blue (200SPT2BLU) ReviewsDate: 2008-12-28 Do not buy this product This product is terrible. I bought one and after one use the words in the display scrolled backwards. I returned it for another and rarely do both ear buds work at the same time, and I have to turn it on and wait 5 minutes for it to actually turn on. I have a friend who bought the same item and after 3 months his plays but the display doesn't work and he has the same problems with the ear buds. Don't waste your money on this, just not worth it. Date: 2008-12-09 I changed my mind I gave this a negative review a couple weeks ago after the unit mysteriously stopped working - yes, it was fully charged and yes, I rtm so it was truly not working. Well, it just as mysteriously started working after a day and now it works 100% as expected. There is an odd oscillator sound coming from the unit so I called Tech Support. He told me that the noise is expected due to the refresh rate on the LCD screen. This means that I can not use bluetooth or some other cheaper headphones that seem to pick up that noise but given that I bought this for swimming, that point is moot. So, if you purchase this for its intended purpose - water sports - it gets 5 stars. If the unit has any problems within 90 days, Freestyle seems to be very responsive and will take care of it. Date: 2008-11-24 BROKEN AFTER FIRST USE... WAITING ON CUSTOMER SERVICE RESPONSE I just bought from amazon vendor my freestyle 2gb blue player and i only used one in the pool and the second time i used some lines came up making impossible to read the music or settings in the player. Also a little black spot came up and now is no longer in good use. When i used i loved because i was able to listen to my favorite music under water. The headphones were not great to my small ears , they kept falling and i used my goggles strap to hold them still. I hope the customer service will provide me with a feedback and fix it so i can use again. So far i can only give 3 stars since is no longer good.. I will update once they fixe it. 2008-11-24 Date: 2008-11-01 Earphone fit make or break it Used this once so far - I could not get the earphones to stay in and/or be water-tight in for more than 200 yards or so. every time I stopped I had to take them off, blow them off, and then play around with the fit again and agin. When it worked it was great - quality was fine / good enough for me (not an audio-nut). Music while doing laps is awesome. - Loading the music was easy enough -drag and drop from a PC. I didn't try to get into the playlists, etc. - just loaded 75 songs in one place and hit play. - Menu system was clunky but you don't really need to use it much, so whatever - Operation of buttons was clunky, but all I would end up doing was hitting play so it was easy enough. - Volume at max was not loud by any means, but it was adequate / good level for me (would not want to have to play around with the volume much given the two-button sequence required) - works fine with regular earphones, but I wouldn't buy this thinking its a great mp3 for all purposes - the operation of it is a little too clunky if you're serious about your music (I use a Blackberry for my music, which is no ipod, but it is 100x better than this in terms of ease of operation) - size was fine - fit it on the back of my goggles without a problem - the earphones is where it fell apart; I tried a couple of different earbuds to see if it made a difference. One was clearly better for me than the others. But even with that, I just couldn't get them to stay in or, if they did stay in, stay waterproof (once a little water gets through you can't hear). One of the earphones stopped working relatively quickly (water in it?) and I never got it working again even after blowing it off. The other would work on and off depending on how tightly it stay sealed. The ear phones come with a piece that fits over your ear - a good idea I think, but it wouldn't stay over my ear, and that led to it dangling off the side and creating drag (not a swim issue, but I think it probably tugged a bit on the earphones, making it even harder to get it to stay in). I should note that I am someone that swims with earplugs in all the time and they stay water tight during my whole swim, so I'm not sure why these wouldn't. It's a shame that the small rubber ear bud ruins this unit. Conclusion: if you are doing laps for a long time, you must try to solve this puzzle - music makes it such a better experience. If the earbuds happen to fit and stay snug, this mp3 player is probably fine and is reasonably priced. However, it doesn't work for me so I am going to return it and try out the Finis swiMp3 v2 (despite its limited storage space, I hope it solves this earphone issue via different technology). Good luck. Date: 2008-10-16 Great little player - update Update: I received the replacement earbud after about 10 days or so (takes a while from US to Canada). There are 2 sets of earbud, 1 long (same as original) and 1 shorter. The shorter one is good if you want to clip the Freestyle on your mask or goggle, I prefer the long one and clip it on my swim truck. The new earbud has no problem so far after almost 10 times in the pool (about 1 hour each time). The volume is no problem, loud enough when I set it to 20-22. I do take care that I always plug it in my ear before I go under water and I make sure no water gets into my ear. I also make sure I use one of the goggle strape to secure the ear hook to my ear. I believe if you take care and use it properly, this is a wonderful player to have when you are doing active activities. BTW, there is a new redesign earbud coming out in a couple of months ------------------------------------------------------------------ I just purchased this player and received it yesterday. It is quite easy to use, as I dislike Windows Media Player, I change the mode to 'Storage Mode' and just copy & paste the songs to the player, no problem there. Tried it in my local pool yesterday, once I figured I need to use the strap to secure the ear loop, no more problem. I just clipped the player onto my swim trunk (instead of using the included armband) and it stays there for the duration of my swim. I found the sansation of listening to songs during my swim strange at the beginning but once I get used to it, it was quite nice. When I took it to the pool today, I noticed one of the earbud has lost about 80% of the volume (the other is fine) but I just finish swimming and took it home to check it with my other earbud, no problem there so I conclude that the player is fine, just the earbud may be broken. I register the player online, send an email to their support indicating there is a problem with my earbud. I was SHOCKED to see a reply within 10 minutes letting me know they will send me a replacement earbud, now that's service! I will update once I receive the new earbud. I rate this product as a 4 because of the earbud problem, other than that, it is a great product and a good price for a 2GB mp3 player that does double duty.
