User Submitted Zune 8 GB Digital Media Player (Black) Reviews (cont...)Date: 2008-12-09 The Anti Ipod has arrived I have fallen in love with Zune. I originally purchased myself one for Valentines Day last year and had my husband "surprise" me with it. Just the fact I did NOT have to use Apple software was a bonus. I was so taken by the features, I bought my daughter one and gave my 8gb to my husband. I then had to get a 30gb to replace it. With the right, free software, I now have over 20 full movies and over 3000 songs on my 30gb. I will be getting an 80gb or 120gb soon....christmas, maybe? Date: 2008-12-09 Do not buy this item! Not only is it very un-userfriendly (my husband still has not figured out an easier way to delete songs from there other than connecting it to the Zune software and re-formatting). It's big and bulky and the picture doesn't turn as advertised. My daughter's died one year after I purchaed it. I called Microsoft and they said they would send another one for the price of a new one. Don't waste your money on this mp3 player - there are so many others out there. Date: 2008-12-09 Disapointed I just got my zune 4 It never charged and was not able to enjoy my mp3 player I just got the return slip and sending it back today. Would not reccomed guess I will have to purchase and apple instead. Date: 2008-12-07 Love my Zune I bought the 4gb Zune in May 2008 and have been more than satisfied with my purchase. I also bought the A/V pack/dock to connect to my existing stereo; it also recharges the Zune while it plays; and the remote does well from a good distance. Ease of use and great sound with the standard earphones have been a big plus. I've had no problems to date (knock on wood) in downloading or playing my music as some buyers had reported. Since it's my first MP3 player, a 1,000-song capacity seems more than adequate. The inclusion of a radio which other brands do not have, is another plus. Highly recommended! Date: 2008-12-05 Pretty good, but not fabulous I admit, though being a fairly musically-involved guy (fan and hobbiest/producer of), I held off quite a while before buying one of the more new-fangled media players. Until a few years ago, I was more than content spinning tunes on my portable mini-disc player. I slowly broke into the portable MP3 players, using them mostly for jogging (mini-disc would occasionally skip), but I was never interested in an IPOD because of the battery replacement issues and the difficulties just loading MP3s on the thing. Being somewhat reluctant, I suggested the Zune as a possible birthday present, and gosh, it was purchased, and I became one of the millions with a spiffy, cool, ultra-modern music/media player. So, what do I think of it? Pluses: - Looks sharp, though I admit, not drastically different from the loads of other players (especially the IPOD) - With 8 gigs of memory, even encoded at 256k (minimum quality for my ears), I can stuff quite a bit of tunage on here - Software makes it easy enough to build play lists - If you can tolerate the miniscule screen you can even watch videos (though I've only tested this minimally) Minuses: - The Zune doesn't play Wave files (*.wav format audio files) - You can't just drag and drop MP3 files from any hard drive to the device (you have to use the Zune software which has to be loaded on the computer that has your MP3 files)...this was a BIG detractor for me! - Battery life isn't quite as nice as I'd like All in all I'm giving it a 4-star rating. It's definitely good if you have one centralized source of MP3 or video files and want it synched with your mobile media device, but if you're keen on just plugging in (to whichever computer), finding the letter drive, and dragging and dropping your files where you want them, then this isn't the best option. In fact, I'll probably buy another smaller storage MP3 player that lets me do that (drag and drop without required software), but I'll definitely keep and enjoy my Zune...especially after buying a docking station that let's me hook it up to any stereo system I have around the house.
