Great email functionality ... Sprint customer service is hit & miss
Albeit, it was a learning curve for me as this was my first "smart phone". I won't go into all the details of what it took to get this phone to fully function correctly (some me, some Sprint).

I've had to deal with Sprint on a few occasions for issues ranging from:

1) I'm no longer receiving email
2) Internet function is not working (but email was)
3) The device would not power down
4) Cannot power the device

Depending upon whom I spoke to of course I received what I would rate overall as below average customer service.

I've also had to replace the phone after 9 months use due to the power input breaking off ... They did replace the phone for $55 (I didn't purchase the optional insurance), remember to back-up your device! Luckily, I had just a week or so ago. Restore worked perfectly.

What I do like (a lot!)

1) Speakerphone (loud and clear)
2) Internet is usually reliable and crisp response
3) Good variety of applications available for all different needs
4) Desktop Manager easy to use - backup, load apps and media
5) Fit and finish of device

Blackberry network was down once since I've had it, I didn't occur any major interruption.

I sync three email accounts, two personal and one work, this I think is one of the devices (Blackberry) strong points, configuration and delivery is seemless. Also, attachments, pdfs, ms office files, adobe... display easily and quickly.

great phone
I love this phone. Voice quality is excellent (both incoming and outgoing). THe only reason I don't give it 5 stars is the keyboard is a little small, and difficult to use for extensive text typing. Otherwise, a great device.

Has potential, does not live up to it
When I got this phone I was excited. It was the clearest reception I'd ever had and it had internet and could be used as a modem, not to mention all kinds of cool stuff can be downloaded to it.

Problem is not everything works. While plugging my laptop into the blackberry is usually reliable, accesssing the internet on the blackberry itself is often a problem. I just canceled my internet because it's down half the time (as is the GPS). It also likes to randommly go into voice command sometimes.

Pros:
-fairly intuitive
-very good reception
-can put a lot on a 2 gig storage card
-good video quality
-looks cool
-has internet
-has gps
-can be used as a moem
-charges fast
-good battery life

cons:
-can't play youtube videos
-video screen is small compared to other phones out now
-no built in camera
-internet and GPS often get no signal
-have never got the GPS 'get directions' feature to work
-internet is slow (worse on the blackbery itsdelf than when used as a modem
- can't store much of anything with default storage space (need to get a memory card)

This is a "smart" phone?
I got this phone because it was heavily subsidized by my employer. After using a Palm Treo a couple of years ago, it was shocking to go back 10 years in technology to a totally text-based, completely non-intuitive interface. Even when resorting to the manual, which one needs to do to accomplish even the simplest tasks, the phone doesn't function as described. Using this phone was like going from Windows XP back to DOS with a C:> prompt. In 2008 there's no excuse for a kludgey throwback to text-based web browsing. I returned it in three days and bought an iPhone with my own money. The 8830 would be a bad deal if it was free.

Poor call quality
The other reviewer is correct - very poor call quality, especially outside or in a car. Keyboard hard to use.
